This museum is more than just a collection of our history. It is a joint effort of the people standing here today outside the walls of this building who have worked tirelessly to create the community we call Koreatown today. LA currently has the largest Korean population in the entire United States. Now our people have become a country where anything is possible. This project is possible if we unite and work together to record this history and continue the future. “1991년 당시 저의 기성세대가 모여 한미박물관을 추진할때는 무조건 해야한다는 마음으로 도전했지만 어떻게 보존하고 운영을 해야한다는 경험이나 생각이 없었던것이 사실입니다. 그러나 이제 우리 훌륭한 우리 1.5세와 2세들이 이렇게 많은 관심과 능력들이 있고 함께 이 중요한 프로젝트를 추진하고 싶다고 하니 너무 고맙다고 말하고 싶습니다. 그리고 우리 우리 한인 사회 단합뿐만 아니라 다민족의 단합에 중요성을 알았고 우리는 반드시 이일이 성공적으로 이루어질거라 믿습니다.” In 1991, as our older generation came together to champion the Korean-American Museum, we embraced the challenge with a determination to see it through, despite lacking experience or a clear plan for its preservation and operation.
